Year 5 pupils from Weston All Saints Primary School in Bath enjoyed a three-day residential visit to the Isle of Wight, bringing their classroom learning to life on the coast.
The trip, which took place in June, was closely linked to the pupils’ recent geography studies, including coastal erosion.
During the three-day, two-night visit, the children explored some of the island’s most striking landscapes and landmarks. On the first day, they climbed to the Tennyson Monument, the highest point of Tennyson Down, before visiting Totland Bay.
The following day, pupils walked through Headon Warren, an area of heathland and a Site of Special Scientific Interest, before reaching the beach and enjoying views across to the Needles, one of the Isle of Wight’s best-known sights.
A highlight of the trip was the chairlift from Alum Bay, followed by time at the Needles Pleasure Park and a well-earned fish and chips supper.
On the final day, the children walked through Fort Victoria Country Park before following the coast to Yarmouth. They also took part in beach-combing activities before returning to the mainland by ferry.
The residential offered pupils the chance to explore coastal landscapes first-hand, build confidence away from home and enjoy shared experiences with their classmates.
