Families across Wiltshire are being encouraged to dive into summer fun with the launch of the Make a Splash Wiltshire campaign, promoting swimming and activities at local leisure centres during the school holidays.
The campaign highlights swimming as an easy, local and affordable way for families to stay active, have fun and spend time together, with a wide range of sessions available for all ages and abilities.
From relaxed family swims to fun sessions and inflatables, there is something for everyone to enjoy, whether families are planning a day out or looking for a spontaneous activity close to home.
As part of the summer offer, Wiltshire Council is also running intensive swimming lesson courses during the school holidays, helping children improve their swimming skills while developing confidence and awareness around water safety.
The intensive lessons take place over consecutive days, giving children the chance to make rapid progress in a short space of time. The courses are suitable for a range of abilities, from beginners taking their first steps in the water through to children looking to refine their technique and move on to the next stage.
The Make a Splash Wiltshire campaign also supports World Drowning Prevention Day on 25 July by encouraging families to enjoy swimming in safe, supervised pool environments. While many people are attracted to open water during hot weather, pools offer a controlled setting where children can build confidence, improve their swimming ability and develop important water safety skills.
Cllr Mel Jacob, Cabinet Member for Communities, Engagement and Corporate Services, said, “Summer is a great time for families to spend time together, and swimming is one of the easiest and most enjoyable ways to stay active.
“Our Make a Splash Wiltshire campaign is all about encouraging residents to make the most of their local leisure centres, whether that is enjoying a fun family swim, trying something new or taking part in our popular intensive swimming courses.
“The school holidays are an excellent opportunity for children to develop their swimming skills, build confidence in the water and learn habits that can help keep them safe.
“We’re proud to offer accessible, affordable opportunities for everyone to get involved this summer and make a splash close to home.”
With sessions running across Wiltshire, residents are encouraged to explore their local timetable and find an activity that suits them.
