Dorothy House hospice will mark its 50th anniversary this autumn with the world premiere of Moments of Light, a major immersive installation by internationally renowned light artist Bruce Munro.
Running from 1 October to 31 December, the three-month installation will transform acres of the hospice’s grounds at Winsley, near Bradford on Avon, with thousands of illuminated forms creating what organisers describe as a constellation of light moving through the landscape.
Munro, who is also a Dorothy House Ambassador, has created large-scale light installations around the world, including in Australia, Japan, the USA, South Korea and across Europe. Moments of Light will sit alongside his permanent Firefly Woods installation in the Dorothy House woodland.
The new work is intended to offer visitors a place for reflection, remembrance and connection, while exploring the hospice’s work through the combination of art and nature.
Wayne de Leeuw, CEO of Dorothy House, said, “As part of our vision to create a society where death is part of life, Moments of Light reflects the very heart of Dorothy House. For 50 years, we have walked alongside people during some of the most tender moments of their lives. This installation brings that spirit of compassion and reflection to a wider community of individuals who will inevitably all encounter death and grief at some point in their lives.”
Bruce Munro added, “I am honoured to create this new work for Dorothy House as part of its anniversary celebrations. My hope is that Moments of Light will offer visitors a space to breathe, reflect and feel held within an environment shaped by care, beauty and nature.”
Tickets for Moments of Light are free, although visitors will be invited to make a suggested donation. All proceeds will support Dorothy House in continuing to provide free specialist end of life care to people and their loved ones.
Visitors will also be able to dedicate a light on a Firefly in memory of someone special, becoming part of a growing constellation of remembrance at the hospice.
The installation is one of the centrepieces of Dorothy House’s 50th anniversary celebrations. Over the past five decades, the charity says it has provided specialist care, compassion and support to 75,000 people in the last 1,000 days of their lives.
Moments of Light takes place at Dorothy House, Winsley, Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire, BA15 2LE, from 1 October to 31 December 2026.
