Families can discover the work of more than 50 artists and take part in free creative workshops when the Batheaston Art Trail returns this September.
Celebrating its sixth anniversary, the popular event will bring together 52 ceramicists, illustrators, graphic designers, textile artists, sculptors, painters, printers and jewellers at venues across the village The free trail takes place on Saturday 26 September from 11am to 6pm and Sunday 27 September from 11am to 5pm. Donations are welcome.
A programme of free family-friendly workshops will run in Batheaston Scout Hall on both days, with sessions taking place from 11am to 1pm and 2pm to 4pm. The workshops are drop-in activities, although places will be subject to availability on the day. Young children must be accompanied by an adult throughout.
Artist Marian Hill, whose illustrations feature on a giant butterfly floor sticker at SouthGate Bath, will lead insect collage workshops on both days.
Zoe from Create and Balance will offer mixed-media sessions inspired by Batheaston and the surrounding countryside.
Saturday’s programme will also include a metal embossing workshop hosted by Rachel from the Cosy Craft Club. On Sunday, Mazy Bartlett will lead a ‘fun with junk’ activity, giving participants the chance to create Picasso-style muddled-up little people.
The workshops have been supported by a grant from Batheaston Parish Council.
Alongside the family activities, visitors will be able to explore artists’ home studios and shared exhibition spaces at Batheaston New Village Hall, the Youth Club and St John the Baptist Church.
The church will also host a display of suffragette memorabilia celebrating Batheaston’s connection with the movement. Many suffragettes travelled to Eagle House in Northend to recuperate after being released from prison.
Venues along the trail will be marked with bunting in the suffragette colours of green, purple and white. Lunches and refreshments will be available at St John the Baptist Church, with local cafés on Batheaston High Street also open on Saturday.
Visitors can combine the trail with a walk through the village and surrounding countryside, including the River Avon, Secret and Forest Gardens, the National Trust river path and St Catherine’s Valley. Batheaston is also easily accessible by bus from Bath city centre.
