Kingswood School is celebrating another year of outstanding GCSE and IGCSE results, with pupils achieving 45% of grades at Levels 9–8 and 69% at Levels 9–7, while more than one in five pupils achieved straight 9–7 grades.
There was a strong performance across the breadth of Kingswood’s curriculum, with 11 subjects recording more than 75% of grades at Levels 9–7: Biology, Chemistry, English Literature, Russian, Latin, Mandarin, Mathematics, Further Mathematics, Physics, Religious Studies and Spanish.
Andrew Gordon-Brown, Headmaster of Kingswood, said, “I’m delighted for this year group and very proud of what they have achieved. These results reflect our pupils’ hard work and determination, as well as the commitment and support of their teachers, which is such a strong feature of our culture.
“GCSEs are an important milestone, but they are only one part of a Kingswood education. This year group has contributed enormously to school life beyond the classroom, and it has been great to see them develop in confidence and take on new challenges during their time with us.”
Alongside their academic achievements, the year group has made the most of the opportunities on offer at Kingswood. From starring roles in The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night-Time and completing their Silver Duke of Edinburgh Awards to fundraising and leading charity outreach in Zambia, pupils have embraced opportunities to develop their skills, confidence and interests beyond the classroom.
They have also taken part in a varied trips programme, including Geography in Iceland, DTE in Italy, Spanish in Seville, French in Marrakesh, Music in Budapest, Computer Science in California and surfing in Spain.
Kingswood’s results come at an exciting time for the school, which continues to receive national recognition for its wider educational offer. Most recently, Kingswood won the Thinking Beyond the Curriculum award at the Talk Education Awards for Innovation in Education for its Advanced Electives Programme.
With the vast majority of the year group set to continue their education at Kingswood this September, the school is looking forward to welcoming many of them into the Sixth Form, where they will be joined by a healthy intake of new Year 12 pupils.
The next stage of their Kingswood journey will include a choice of 23 A-Level subjects, the Advanced Electives Programme and a wide range of co-curricular, leadership and enrichment opportunities, alongside the recently refurbished Dixon Centre, a hub for study and socialising.
