Wiltshire Council has welcomed a positive Ofsted inspection of its Family and Community Learning service, with inspectors highlighting the support provided to learners across the county.
The inspection found the service meets the expected standard across all areas inspected, with safeguarding standards also met.
Inspectors highlighted strong support for disadvantaged learners and those facing barriers to education, alongside flexible learning opportunities delivered both in community venues and online.
The report also recognised tailored provision for learners with SEND, care-experienced learners and people learning English as a second language.
Learners were found to develop greater confidence, independence and skills that can support further learning, volunteering and employment, while partnerships with other organisations help the service respond to the needs of local communities.
Cllr Jon Hubbard, Cabinet Member for Children’s Services, Education and Skills, said, “We’re delighted that Ofsted has recognised the positive impact of our Family and Community Learning service and the dedication of our staff, tutors and partners. Adult learning can transform lives, helping people gain new skills, improve their confidence and wellbeing, and access new opportunities.

The Ofsted report praised the impact of the service on learners, stating, “Most learners develop the knowledge, skills and behaviours that they need to participate more fully in their communities, engage confidently with professionals and increase their independence.”
Inspectors also found that learners feel welcome, valued and safe, and benefit from personalised support which helps them overcome barriers including low confidence, anxiety and social isolation.
