Families of children aged five and under are being invited to join Play & Shine, a free baby and toddler group offering a calmer and more supportive setting for play.
Run by Keynsham and District Mencap, the relaxed and friendly sessions are designed especially for children with disabilities, additional learning needs or those who may find larger, busier playgroups overwhelming. No formal diagnosis is needed and families are welcome to attend if they feel their child would benefit from a gentler pace, extra support or a smaller and more predictable environment.
The group may be particularly suitable for children with emerging developmental, social or communication needs, as well as those who are awaiting an assessment. Organisers stress that the insight of parents and carers is what matters most when deciding whether the sessions could be helpful.
Play & Shine provides children with opportunities to explore, play and socialise in a welcoming space. The smaller group setting is intended to help children feel comfortable while allowing parents and carers to meet other local families.
Sessions take place from 9.30am until 11.30am every Tuesday and Thursday during term time at Queens Road Methodist Centre, Queens Road, Keynsham, BS31 2NN.
The group is free to attend and families can join the Tuesday session, the Thursday session or both. Drop-in visitors are also welcome.
