Students at St Gregory’s Catholic College are celebrating a strong set of GCSE results, with Year 11 students achieving success across a broad range of subjects and looking ahead to the next stage of their education.
This year, 75% of all grades at St Gregory’s were awarded at Grades 4–9, compared with a national average of 67.3%, while almost a quarter were at Grades 7–9, compared with 20% across state-funded secondary schools nationally. The proportion of grades awarded at Grades 5–9 also increased this year, with 61% of all grades achieving a Grade 5 or above.
Students achieved particularly strong results in Biology, Chemistry, Drama, Food Technology, French, Mandarin, Physics, Religious Studies and Spanish, reflecting the breadth of the curriculum and the diverse interests and talents of the Year 11 cohort.
Headteacher Melissa George said, “We are incredibly proud of our Year 11 students and everything they have achieved. These results are the culmination of years of hard work, resilience and determination, and it has been wonderful to see our students grow into confident young people ready to take their next steps.
“Every student has their own story behind these results, and we are delighted to celebrate the individual successes of the cohort alongside their achievements as a year group.
“We are particularly pleased that so many of our students have chosen to continue their education with us at The New Sixth. They know our teachers, our community and our values, and they will now have the opportunity to build on everything they have achieved at GCSE while preparing for their future beyond school.
“Whether continuing at The New Sixth or taking a different path, they leave Year 11 with the confidence and foundations to flourish. We are very proud of them and look forward to seeing all that they go on to achieve.”
Among those celebrating was Kal-El, who secured Grade 9s in all 11 subjects studied at GCSE. Lucy and Tilly both achieved nine Grade 9s and one Grade 8 and will continue their studies at A-Level, while Edmund achieved nine Grade 9s and two Grade 7s and will pursue a Performing Arts pathway.
Jan achieved seven Grade 9s and three Grade 8s, securing a place to study Computer Science, Maths and Physics at A-Level, while William secured 10 GCSEs at Grades 7–9, including six Grade 9s.
A number of students achieving strong results will continue their studies at The New Sixth. STEM Scholar Jan will study Computer Science, Maths and Physics, Academic Scholar Cheryl will take Biology, Chemistry and Maths, while Performing Arts Scholar Lucy will continue with Drama, Biology and Psychology.
For many students, the results mark the beginning of the next stage of their St Gregory’s journey. With more than 20 A-Level subjects available, The New Sixth offers students the chance to continue studying subjects they enjoy, discover new interests and prepare for university, apprenticeships and future careers.
