Students at St Gregory’s Sixth Form, The New Sixth, are celebrating a strong set of A-Levels results as they prepare to take their next steps into university, apprenticeships, employment and gap years.
This year, 73% of all grades were A*-C, 98% were A*-E and 20% were awarded at A*-A. Students performed particularly strongly in Art, Biology, English Literature, Drama and Further Maths.
Headteacher Melissa George said, “Today is a wonderful opportunity to celebrate our students and everything they have achieved during their time at St Gregory’s. We know that behind every result is a great deal of effort, perseverance and determination, and we are immensely proud of the young people they have become.
“Our aim at The New Sixth is to provide an education that develops the whole person – academically, personally and spiritually. Today we can see the impact of that in the breadth of achievements and opportunities our students are celebrating.
“For some, today confirms a long-held ambition to study at university. For others, it marks the beginning of an apprenticeship, a career or a completely different adventure. Whatever their destination, we know they have the confidence and resilience to flourish.”
Students have secured places at universities including Durham, Exeter, Leeds, University College London, Cardiff and Bristol, alongside competitive higher-level apprenticeships and employment opportunities.
Imogen has secured a place to study Medicine at the University of Southampton. She said, “I am overjoyed to be going off to study medicine which wouldn’t have been possible without the dedication and support, both academically and pastorally, of all my teachers. St Gregory’s has believed in me and pushed me to be the best version of myself.”
Rowan will also study Medicine, at the University of Bristol. He said, “The New Sixth has given me the support, resources and information I needed to explore my future pathways and understand how to achieve my goals.”
Lucy is progressing to the University of Exeter to study History and praised the pastoral support she received at St Gregory’s. She said, “My teachers consistently went above and beyond to support me academically and personally. Thank you all so much.”
Director of Sixth Stewart Burn said the students would remain part of the St Gregory’s community as they moved on to their next chapter. He added, “We look forward to following their journeys and celebrating their achievements for many years to come. They will always be part of the St Gregory’s family.”
