Students at St Mary’s Calne are celebrating an exceptional set of A-Level results, with more than 65% of grades awarded at A*-A and 90% at A*-B. Almost a third of all grades, 29%, were awarded at A*, while 39% of students achieved all A*-A grades. The school also recorded a 100% pass rate.
The results have helped students secure places at universities across the UK and overseas, with 86% receiving an offer from their first-choice UK university and every student gaining an offer from either their first or second choice.
Head of St Mary’s Calne, Mrs Anne Wakefield, said, “We are so proud of our 2026 Upper Sixth students who have achieved exceptional results with 90% of grades at A*-B, and almost a third of all grades (29%) at A*. They worked incredibly hard and their results are testament to the dedication, passion for learning and tenacity that have been hallmark qualities of this cohort of students.”
Head Girl Ada R has secured her place at Durham University to read history, while Deputy Head Girls Allison L and Olivia M will study psychology at UCL and politics and international relations at Newcastle University respectively.
Medicine continues to be a popular choice, with Florence OS and Millie O securing their first-choice places at UCL and the University of Liverpool.
Two St Mary’s students were also recognised by Cambridge OCR as being among the highest achievers in the country for fine art.
STEM subjects feature strongly among this year’s destinations. Students will study biochemistry and molecular bioengineering at Imperial College London, pharmacology at Queen Mary University of London, mathematics at the University of Chicago and zoology at the University of Bristol.
Other university destinations include Oxford, St Andrews, Exeter, Edinburgh, LSE, King’s College London, ESCP in France and US institutions Case Western Reserve University and Tufts University.
Head of Sixth Form Mrs Lucy Weeden said, “We are very proud of our students’ academic successes, but also the wide range of pathways they are taking for life after Calne, from STEM degrees to the creative arts. Our pupils leave Sixth Form as confident, well-rounded young people ready to embrace new opportunities and make their mark on the world.”
Mrs Wakefield added, “We are incredibly proud to see each pupil following their own interests and passions. It is a wonderful reflection of the Calne spirit.”
