Pupils at St Mary’s Calne are celebrating an outstanding set of GCSE results, with more than half of all grades awarded at grades 8 or 9.
Across the school’s UV (Year 11) cohort, 56% of GCSEs taken were awarded grades 8 or 9, including 31% at the top grade of 9. In total, 79% of all grades were awarded at grades 9-7, equivalent to A*-A under the previous grading system, while 37% of pupils achieved at least nine grades at 9-7.
Deputy Head Academic Michael Smyth said, “We are delighted with these excellent GCSE results. They are a reflection of the ambition of our wonderful pupils and the expert guidance and encouragement provided by St Mary’s teachers.
“I was particularly impressed by the way each girl approached her studies, especially during the Summer Term, showing focus, dedication and good cheer in equal measure. They have truly demonstrated what it means at St Mary’s Calne to ‘win your own race’!”
The school said the results reflected not only pupils’ academic progress but also the teaching and pastoral support they receive throughout their time at St Mary’s.
The all-girls’ school combines academic teaching with a wide range of opportunities and facilities designed to help pupils develop their confidence and fulfil their potential, supporting the school’s message that ‘you can at Calne’.
Head Anne Wakefield congratulated the Year 11 pupils and said she was looking forward to welcoming them into the school’s Sixth Form. She said, “A huge congratulations to our remarkable Year 11 pupils. We are delighted to celebrate all that you have achieved and the qualities you have shown along the way.
“We are immensely proud of each and every one of you, and look forward to seeing you continue to grow and thrive as you take the next step in your journey with us in the St Mary’s Calne Sixth Form.”
