Students at Wellsway School are celebrating an excellent set of GCSE results following five years of hard work, determination and resilience.
Across the Year 11 cohort, 61% of students achieved Grade 5 or above in both English and Mathematics, while 80% secured Grade 4 or above in both subjects. Students achieved an average grade of 5.2 across all GCSE entries.
Headteacher Rob Pearsall said, “We are incredibly proud of our students and everything they have achieved. These results represent years of hard work, perseverance and determination. While today rightly celebrates academic success, what makes this year group so special is the character they have shown throughout their time at Wellsway.
“When I think about the Class of 2026, I think about their kindness, humour, inclusivity and the way they have consistently supported one another. They have embraced opportunities, overcome challenges and made a positive contribution to our school community. They should be immensely proud of everything they have achieved.”
Among a range of excellent results were some exceptional individual achievements.
- Louis achieved nine Grade 9s and one Grade 8, while Alfie gained nine Grade 9s and one Grade 7. Chelsy achieved six Grade 9s, two Grade 8s and two Grade 7s.
- Daisy and Bernice each gained four Grade 9s, four Grade 8s and two Grade 7s, while Molly and Clarice both achieved five Grade 9s, two Grade 8s, two Grade 7s and one Grade 6.
- Other outstanding results included Isla with five Grade 9s, one Grade 8, two Grade 7s and two Grade 6s; Jack with four Grade 9s, four Grade 8s, one Grade 7 and one Grade 5; Luca with five Grade 9s, one Grade 8, two Grade 7s and one Grade 6; and Edward with four Grade 9s, two Grade 8s, two Grade 7s and one Grade 6.
The school stressed that results day was a celebration of the achievements of the entire year group, including students who had worked hard and overcome personal challenges to secure the grades needed for their next steps.
Mr Pearsall added, “What I will remember most about this cohort is not a set of examination results. I will remember their resilience, their empathy, their ambition and their willingness to support each other. Long after results day has passed, those qualities will continue to shape their success and help them make a positive difference in the world.”
Many of the students will return to Wellsway in September to join Futura Sixth, studying A-Levels and Level 3 courses alongside students joining from other schools.
Staff, governors and the wider Wellsway community have congratulated the Class of 2026 and thanked parents and carers for their support throughout the students’ time at the school.
