Students and staff at Wiltshire College & University Centre (WCUC) have been celebrating after the college achieved a 96% pass rate in this year’s vocational and technical Level 3 qualifications.
Many courses recorded a 100% pass rate, including Animal Management, Equine, Travel and Tourism, Motorsport and Art and Design. There was also plenty to celebrate among T-Level students, with 94% passing at the end of their two-year courses and 100% pass rates in Digital, Business, Land-Based Engineering and Midwifery.
Student lands NHS job after T-Level success
At the Salisbury campus, T-Level Health student Lauren Bueno de Mesquita, 18, from Warminster, was celebrating both a Distinction and a new job.
“The result is amazing. I really, really wasn’t expecting it at all. I’ve had to put a lot of hard work in over the past two years,” she said. “The course was challenging because there was so much to learn and the placements at Salisbury District Hospital were tough at times, but so worth it.”
Lauren returns to the hospital next week as a pharmacy support worker after her placement experience helped her secure the role.
“While on my placement I decided I wanted to do laboratory work and I saw the job on the NHS website,” she said. “I mentioned the placement at the interview and they were really happy that I had that experience. That’s what helped me to get in, I think. Now I’m really excited about starting.”
T-Level Management and Administration students Brook Higgs and Elizabeth Love, both 18, were delighted with Merits.
Brook, from Gillingham, said, “I’m really pleased, it’s what we need for a lot of jobs and apprenticeships that we want so I’m excited.”
Elizabeth, from Bourton, is now applying for roles in sales and administration, while fellow student Oliver Spicer, 18, also from Bourton, achieved a Merit and is considering his next step.
Students head to university and apprenticeships
At the Chippenham campus, where students achieved a 98.2% pass rate, Ezbon Colaco, 18, from Chippenham, gained a Merit in T-Level Digital Support Services and is going on to study Cyber Security in Bath.
Fellow Digital Support Services students Ben Smith, 19, from Devizes, Rory Davis, 17, from Chippenham and Harry Roberts, 20, from Chippenham, also celebrated passes. Rory is heading to Nottingham University, Harry will begin an apprenticeship and Ben is considering his options.
Summer Weaving, 18, from Devizes, passed her T-Level in Early Years Development and will study Special Educational Needs Education and Psychology at Cardiff Metropolitan University.
“I’m very happy to move away and further my education, it’s my dream come true,” she said. “It has been amazing at college, I had a rough time at secondary school but this was life changing. It made education so much more enjoyable.”
At Lackham, T-Level Business student Oscar Bowler was delighted to gain a Merit after retaking one of his exams, while fellow Business student Joe Reynolds had already secured his university place before receiving confirmation that he had passed.
