Work to transform Melksham’s skate park is set to begin next month, reports the Melksham Independent News. Wiltshire Council announced last year that the skate park was in need of refurbishment as it is a major facility in the town.
The skate park is set to be completely replaced, with new facilities to be installed, including concrete ramps which should last 40 years. Work is expected to be completed by the end of April/early May 2017.
A Wiltshire Council spokesperson said, “We have now completed the tender exercise for the new skate park and will be awarding the contract. As part of this process the companies have submitted designs for the new facility. Once the contractor has been confirmed, we will be arranging engagement sessions to share these designs with local people.
“We are still aiming to start work this spring and will be able to confirm dates once the contractor has been formally appointed. We cannot start the build work until the spring at the earliest as the scheme involves laying concrete which cannot be done in winter temperatures.
“Together with the new sports facilities at Woolmore Farm, the improved Market Place work due to start soon and the health and wellbeing centre – this will be a fantastic investment for the Melksham community.”
