Dodgeball is one of the fastest growing sports in the UK and the South West is starting to become a hotbed for new clubs. While the Bath Spartans club continues to grow, a new club has recently started in Chippenham, with another due to launch soon in Trowbridge.
“We’ve started the Chippenham Chargers as a result of real growth in demand for more dodgeball clubs,” explained James Robinson from Southwest Dodgeball. “The new Chippenham club is open to both juniors, aged 11-16 years, and adults, aged 16 plus, and is held on Thursdays from 7pm at Sheldon School. We’re then looking to launch a new club in Trowbridge in the new year. New members are always welcome and your first session is free. After that it’s just £3 a week.”
James explained that dodgeball is a fast moving game where teams try to hit each other with a large, soft ball. As well as helping to improve fitness, it’s a great way to develop coordination and teamwork
“Ofsted recently surveyed primary school age children to find out their favourite sports, and while football was number one, dodgeball came second. Ever since the School Games included dodgeball, the sport has grown so quickly, with our after schools clubs being over subscribed and children absolutely loving it!”
