Pupils from St Michael’s Junior Church School and Roundhill Primary School in Bath have collaborated with a composer and choreographer to help give The Bath Festival the best possible start. The children, along with Action on Hearing Loss EDS and Bath City FC, worker with composer Omar Shahryar and choreographer Deepraj Singh to create a song and dance which celebrated differences and all that brings us together.
Following weeks of child-led workshopping and practicing, the children performed both on the pitch at Twerton Park and again in Abbey Square on the opening day of the festival.
“The children have thoroughly enjoyed and embraced the opportunity to collaborate with Omar and Deeps, who challenged the children to pool their creativity and choreograph a performance expressing their personalities,” said Mark Durrant, a teacher from St Michael’s. “Working and performing with other schools and the wider community has given them such confidence – all involved were so proud and feel we’ve connected with a range of people and groups we otherwise may not have.”
