A free trial day is now available at a new independent school that is coming to Trowbridge in September. Lumiar Stowford is an Ofsted-approved school for children aged 5-11 years, and that connects learning with innovation and nature. Lumiar Stowford is based at a stunning rural location between Bath and Frome, and will open as a five day per week from September. The free trial day invites students to try out this innovative educational approach on Monday 1 July, 9am – 3pm.
“At Lumiar Stowford, we create a happy, challenging and effective learning environment, where children flourish and reach their full potential; a family where they develop a joy for learning, a respect for themselves and others, become confident, independent learners, creative thinkers and develop growth mindsets,” said Claire Walker, who transitions into the role of Head of Education in August. Claire is part of a team which has been working with 21 students over the last two years, bringing this educational approach to the UK.
The school incorporates a combination of project-based learning, integrated assessment and a broad and varied curriculum that has been developed by Lumiar in Brazil for over 15 years. Lumiar Stowford is overseen by a Board of experienced educators and business people working closely with Lumiar’s Team in Brazil.
“The school’s approach is focused on skills such as autonomy, social skills, technological proficiency, collaboration, digital literacy, critical thinking, problem-solving, analysis, interpretation, synthesis, self-awareness, leadership, communication and creativity,” added Claire. “The curriculum follows the UK national curriculum for core skills including numeracy, literacy and science. Teaching takes place in small class sizes, with a student to tutor ratio of 15 to 1.”
