Archaeologists have found hundreds of pieces of decorative marble buried beneath the floor of Bath Abbey. The marble was once part of the Abbey’s hundreds of wall monuments and was removed and buried in the late 1860s. Participants of all ages are now invited to see what it takes to be an archaeologist working with this material.
Everyone taking part will have fun, handle, wash, record and learn about their own piece of marble. They will gain a hands on understanding of a piece of the Abbey’s history and contribute to the Abbey’s Footprint Project and its archaeological record.
