The Holburne Museum in Bath is seeking a new Learning & Engagement Assistant. The post will sit within a Creative Team overseen by the Director and also including the Learning & Engagement Lead, the Curator (Collections & Exhibitions) and Assistant Curator (Collections & Exhibitions).
The Holburne’s Learning & Engagement programme will focus on reaching a greater diversity of people through innovative and ambitious creative opportunities. The role will suit a practical, creative person with strong administration and communication skills. They will have experience of developing creative activities, as well as working with artists and a range of audiences and participants either in a museum or another institutional context with Learning at its heart.
THE ROLE
The Learning & Engagement Assistant will support the Learning & Engagement Lead to deliver the Museum’s learning programme and its engagement with local communities. They will:
- Act as the main contact and administrator for all Learning and Engagement work, maintaining communication with education and community partners and administrating paid-for activities during school holidays.
- Work with colleagues to ensure the communication and marketing of the Holburne’s Learning & Engagement programmes and vision – on-site, online and through social media.
- Help the Learning & Engagement Lead develop project proposals and support the delivery and evaluation of those projects when funding is in place, including liaising with, inducting and in some instances managing, freelancers and volunteers.
- Develop and produce with the support of the Learning & Engagement Lead high quality free creative activities for children and families, on-line resources for schools and other funded engagement projects for people of all ages.
- Support the organisation and delivery of adult learning events, as necessary.
- Assist the Learning & Engagement Lead’s oversight of all learning and engagement project budgets.
- Set up the learning spaces and furniture and prepare equipment and materials for the successful delivery of Learning and Engagement events, including the ordering of art materials.
- As part of the Creative Team, support work on the display and interpretation of the collection with the aim of attracting and communicating with broad and diverse audiences.

The role takes four days per week and offers a salary of £22,000 p.a. pro rata. The deadline for applications is 8am on Monday 7 December.
