Families and animal lovers from across the region are being invited to leap into Portishead Marina and be rescued by a 14 stone Newfoundland dog, all to raise funds for the Bath Cats and Dogs Home.
The event takes place on Saturday 4 September in association with the Newfound Friends Charity Rescue days on Saturday September 4th. Newfies are renowned for their love of the water and are more than happy to show off their skills by rescuing their human chums.
To take part, swimmers must be eight years and over, be able to swim unaided and be confident enough to jump into open water. There’s also a £25 registration fee, with all participants being required to raise a minimum of £175 in sponsorship money. Only 15 places available and they will be given on a first come, first served basis.
10 year old Harry Turner, took part last year, said, “It was one of the best days ever! I loved the dogs, the boat, jumping into water and I got to raise money for rescue animals.”
