Two students from Fairfield Farm College in Westbury, Wiltshire, have recently completed a Sports Leaders UK course and have been chosen to be the Swindon & Wiltshire Young Athlete Role Models. Both Josh and Nathan have actively participated in a Youth Sport Trust leadership initiative called ‘Step into Sport’, and will offer support and encouragement to other participants. They will also get the chance to speak to the new cohort of trainee leaders about their experiences.
Former Paralympian Kate Ager joined Josh and Nathan at Fairfield Farm College to help plan their talks and offered her advice on leadership in sports. Kate is a Paralympic swimmer and has represented Great Britain at European Championships, World Championships and the 2008 Beijing Paralympics. Josh and Nathan thoroughly enjoyed their time with Kate, and discussed their leadership journey, the elements that they found difficult and how they had overcome their challenges.
“I couldn’t be prouder of Josh and Nathan, as well as all the Sports Leaders at the college,”said Rachel Bown, leader of the programme at Fairfield Farm College. “They’ve done a great job encouraging and inspiring others with disabilities to get involved with sports. We can’t wait to see where the journey takes them next.”
