What’s the collective noun for a group of authors? A chapter?
What a great start to 2022 Bath Children’s Literature Festival #bathkidslitfest last weekend! The venues were filled with excited children and the Green Room in the historic Guildhall was buzzing as authors and illustrators came and went, chatting and posing for photos with each other. Among those visiting were David Baddiel, Dame Jacqueline Wilson, Dermot O’Leary, Steven Lenton, Kiran Millwood Hargrave, Cerrie Burnell, Steven Butler and Michael Rosen.
The story telling magic continues all this week as hundreds of schoolchildren come to Bath to attend live events. A lot of these young people will have missed out on experiences like this because of the pandemic. Thanks to donations and sponsors, FREE places were given to schools where needed.
The fun continues this weekend (Sat 1 Oct and Sun 2 Oct) – come and join us! We’ll be drawing along with Rob Biddulph #DrawWithRob, hearing about dinosaurs, laughing like hyenas with Julian Clary and enjoying the power of words with the new Waterstones Children’s Laureate Joseph Coelho. There will be events for pre-school children, lots for middle grade readers and a whole programme for YA (Young Adult) fans.
Comedians Rosie Jones and Richard Ayoade will be introducing their books for children and the creator of the smash hit Heartstopper series Alice Oseman will be here!
Alice’s event sold out really quickly, but if you sign up to be a Bath Festivals member you get priority booking for future festivals, so you’ll never miss out. For tickets: https://bathfestivals.org.uk/childrens-literature/whats-on/
On Sunday 2 October The American Museum and Gardens at Claverton will be throwing its gates open for free entry all day as part of the Bath Children’s Literature Festival. Visit its dinosaur exhibition and take part in a series of family-friendly activities.
