Box Revels is back for 2023, with a Bank Holiday Weekend full of family fun including movies, fancy dress cricket, band night and the grand fete!
Taking place over the weekend of 27-29 May, the Box Revels starts on the Saturday with the chance to bring the kids or grandchildren to see the movie Wall-E at the morning matinee at the Selwyn Hall (tickets £5 at Stop Press or on the door).
Then for later the same day, make sure you’ve booked the babysitter for Saturday evening for the infamous Revels Banquet. This year’s script is totally BONKERS and it’s a performance not to be missed! (Pre-booked tickets only, currently selling fast at Stop Press – £8.50.)
On Sunday 28 May at 11am you can warm-up at the Revels Fitness Flashmob (all ages, sizes and abilities welcome – hosted by Adam from Luther Training) and then sit back for a lazy afternoon on the boundary, watching the Goodies v Baddies in the annual Box Revels Fancy Dress Cricket Match.
Box’s very own Iain ‘Blowers’ Kemp will provide ball-by-ball commentary and idle-ramblings to amuse you over your cucumber sandwiches, and what is lacked in cricketing talent will be made up for with good-humour and riotous entertainment.
As soon as the cricket finishes then head up to the Queens Head for the Box Revels Band Night (4-9pm). Look forward to cracking covers and awesome originals from four of Box’s very best bands: Enter Red, Burlington Underground, The Agonists, and MiD WiFE CRiSiS… sing, drink, dance and be merry!
Then to round off the weekend, on Monday 29 May, it’s the traditional Box Revels family fete, which kicks off with the fancy-dress parade. Gather on the green on Bargtes for an 11.45am start. The Parade will be headed by antique vehicles and tractors, and will snake its way through the village to the Rec for 12pm, signalling the start of the fete itself.
At the fete visitors will find the fairground, community and craft stalls, a climbing wall, magic show, sock-wrestling, the dog-show and much more. This year’s entertainment will include street-dancing, a totally eccentric hobby-horse gymkhana and, of course, the annual Tug of War competition.
You can find an Event page for each of the above on the Box Revels Facebook page, as well as options for to volunteer your time to help the Revels team over the weekend.
