News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

A series of free family-friendly Community Farmer Days is being held by The Community Farm, as well as Autumn Foraging Walks and The Big Harvester Fundraiser.

Situated in Chew Magna and overlooking the beautiful Chew Valley Lake, The Community Farm is a not-for-profit, organic farm that grows, sources and delivers food across the local area. “We aim to grow community as much as we grow food,” explained Tom Richardson, the Communication Manager at the farm. “Every year we welcome over 1,500 people onto the land for wellbeing courses, social events and volunteering sessions.

“Our free Community Farmer Days are the perfect day-out for families where you can get stuck into some farm work and help us grow, delicious organic food. Run on select Saturdays from April – November, they are a great way to get your hands dirty and try out being a farmer for a day. There’s plenty to learn about where your food comes from and you’ll be surrounded by beautiful hedgerows, rolling hills and plenty of other lovely volunteers, too.”

Tom added that the farm also offers foraging walks and owl prowls, as well as the upcoming Harvest Celebration fundraiser where visitors can dip into family-friendly activities or indulge in a meadow meditation. The day will be rounded off with a performance by folk singer Susanna Waters.

There will also be an epic raffle – with prizes including season tickets to Yeo Valley’s gorgeous organic gardens, Valley Fest 2024 tickets, lunch at The Pig Near Bath and much, much more…

The farm’s education partner, Earthwise, also delivers a weekly Parent & Child Forest School group at the farm, Little Shoots, for children aged 2-5.

What’s more, the farm welcome Bristol-based refugees and asylum seekers; people suffering with isolation and mental ill health; and adults and children from visible ethnic minorities.

“We also deliver local, organic, climate-friendly food right to your door from less than 15 miles away,” said Tom. “We practice wildlife-friendly farming and work with over 40 other producers in the South West who share our values. Plus we minimise packaging and food waste by delivering the freshest produce in recyclable boxes.
