Year 11 pupils at King Edward’s School in Bath have today been celebrating some superb GCSE results, with almost 40% at the top 9 grade and nearly two thirds at grade 9 or 8. 84% of grades were at 9-7, well above KES’ already historically high pre-Covid average.
There were many outstanding individual successes, including over 20% of the cohort gaining 8 or more 9 grades and well over 40% achieving all 9-7 grades.
Today’s published results reflect tremendous success across all the departments, with the school achieving a 100% pass rate in all subjects. Drama, History and English all saw at least half of their entries at grade 9. Remarkably, over 60% of these in English Language and Literature, taken by all 126 pupils in the year group, were at the top grade, with nearly 80% at grade 9 or 8!
Headmaster, Martin Boden, was full of praise for the pupils, noting that, “Despite being massively impacted by the challenges of Covid and lockdown, this year group has emerged with some of the best GCSE results in the school’s history. They are a very likeable and incredibly talented group of pupils, in and out of the classroom, and I am immensely proud to see just how impressively they have flourished on both an individual and a cohort level.
“I know that they will be the first to join me in paying tribute to the inspirational teaching and support staff and to highlight the outstanding pastoral care that have helped them to this well-deserved success, and I am sure that they will also be keen to thank their families for the unstinting support and encouragement that they have received during these challenging past few years.
“I am delighted that almost all of the pupils have chosen to progress into the Sixth Form at KES, to be joined by around 30 new pupils for what promises to be a very exciting and fulfilling next two years. I wish them, as well as those KES pupils moving on to new pastures, the very best for the future.”
