Wera Hobhouse, Liberal Democrat MP for Bath, has paid a visit to Twerton Infant School and Nursery to formally open its new Play Hideout in the playground, funded by contributions from the Curo Community Fund.

Wera was accompanied for the celebratory event by Liberal Democrat Councillors for Twerton, Tim Ball and Sarah Moore, who is also a governor of the school.

The Curo Community Grant Fund is open to residents who can apply for up to £500 to contribute towards funding for projects and activities that serve the community.

George Samios, Headteacher at Twerton Infant School and Nursery, said, “Today is a wonderful occasion for our school community as we unveil our new Play Hideout, generously funded by the Curo Community Grant Fund. It’s a delight to have our MP Wera, along with our councillors Sarah and Tim, here to formally open this exciting addition to our playground.

“The joy and excitement this space will bring to our children are immeasurable. We extend our heartfelt thanks to the Curo Community Grant Fund for their generosity, and to Tim, Sarah and Wera for their continued support to our school and community.”

George went on to also thank the George Cadbury Trust and the Tree Council for their generous grants for planters and apple trees respectively. These will play a huge role in developing the school’sForest School activities, where confidence and self-esteem are developed through learner-inspired, hands-on experiences in a natural setting, along with enriching gardening and horticulture projects.

Sarah Moore, Governor of Twerton Infant School and Liberal Democrat Councillor for Twerton, said,  “I want to express my deepest gratitude to the Curo Community Fund, the George Cadbury Trust and the Tree Council on behalf of the school’s governing board and B&NES council. Their continued support for community projects demonstrates their unwavering commitment to serving as a force for good and making a positive impact within our community.”

After ttending a rousing assembly and enjoying a tour around classrooms to meet some pupils, Wera Hobhouse, Liberal Democrat MP for Bath, commented, “It’s a joy to be here to formally open Twerton Infant School’s fantastic new Play Hideout and see first-hand the beautiful planters and sapling apple trees. Quality play in an outdoor setting is essential to children’s development, fostering happiness, imagination, excellent relationship skills, and prepares them for focused learning in the classroom. Thank you to all of these organisations for enabling such positive initiatives in our community.”
