Year 13 pupils at King Edward’s School, Bath, are celebrating an impressive range of offers from leading UK and international universities this year, as the 2024 application process draws to a close.
Close to 500 course offers have been received, of which an overwhelming majority are from either Russell Group universities or the top 20 non-Russell Group universities, according to the Complete University Guide.
The range of our Year 13 cohort’s interests and future ambitions, as well as the all-round academic strength of the school in support of their aspirations, is fully evidenced by the scope of courses which our pupils hope to study, which this year include:
- Aeronautics and Astronautics/Spacecraft Engineering – University of Southampton
- Arabic and Politics – University of Edinburgh
- Bioarchaeology – University of York
- Classics with Asian and Middle Eastern Studies – University of Oxford
- Commercial Music Technology – London College of Contemporary Music
- Computer Science with Artificial Intelligence – University of York and University of Southampton
- Cyber Security and Digital Forensics – University of Bristol
- Engineering – University of Cambridge

Remarkably, all 16 KES medical applicants were successful in gaining an offer to study at medical school next year, with several pupils in receipt of four offers each. Universities offering medical places to KES pupils include Cambridge, UCL, St Andrews, Nottingham and Queen Mary University of London. Across the UK approximately 30% of medical applications were successful in receiving offers this year.
Applying to US or overseas universities has also proved popular this year, with Year 13 pupils, or recent leavers, in receipt of offers from Ivy League Schools including Brown and Columbia Universities, as well as the University of Arizona, Washington University, the University of Hong Kong and Trinity College Dublin.
Headmaster, Martin Boden, commented, “Whilst the hard work to achieve the required grades still lies ahead, it is wonderful that so many of our pupils have received offers for their chosen course and institution, including increasing numbers of prestigious universities overseas.
“The Higher Education and UCAS team at KES does a fantastic job in supporting and guiding our pupils through the application process, and I wish everyone involved the best of luck in the coming weeks as they aim for the success that they deserve this summer.”
