Parent governor Hannah Pearce looks back to a very memorable few weeks at Lacock Primary School

What a month it has been for Lacock Primary School – from our bicentenary celebration service on 20th June to the arrival of Her Majesty Queen Camilla last Thursday (11th July).

We are so grateful to those who could celebrate with us at St Cyriac’s Church on 20th June, where we looked back through the history of the school from past pupils to present. The children re-enacted various moments from history, bringing memories of the school to life and exploring how the school has changed over the years.

There was also the wonderful joy of having Sir William Henry Fox-Talbot’s three times great-grandson, Reverend James Clark-Maxwell, join us for the celebration and hear about the legacy Fox-Talbot has left in our school.

We gathered outside the school to share tea and cake together, talk through memories with those who have been connected with the school over the years, and the children performed some beautiful country dancing. It was a glorious day to remember and we are so grateful to all who were involved in making it happen.

On Thursday, our celebrations were brought to a fantastic finale when Her Majesty Queen Camilla came to spend time with the children and unveil a commemorative plaque highlighting 200 years of the school. The children have taken pictures, which were specially printed and embossed onto a wooden plaque, and now hangs in the school – we are so grateful to all those involved in both creating this piece and raising support for its production.

Queen Camilla arrived early afternoon at the school and spent time with each of the classes, chatting with the children about their learning and hearing songs and poems. The afternoon finished with the unveiling of the school’s plaque and a song performed by the children, written specifically for Lacock school, which highlights the school’s vision.

We have been overwhelmed this year with the love and support shown to our little village school, it has been an incredible year, filled with so many special memories for the children to cherish for a lifetime. It has been wonderful to look back over the past 200 years of Lacock School and we look forward to seeing how the school will impact the lives of many into the future!
