A drive on improving the relationship between parents and the school has seen an increase in pupil attendance that takes Kingsbury Green Academy in Calne to well above average for the South West region.
Overall attendance has increased to 90.3% from 88.8% last year, which translates to approximately 94 additional school days, a figure that has the potential to make a major difference to every pupil’s achievement throughout their school life.
Kingsbury Green Academy has been focused on developing and improving effective links between home and school, which has shown to impact on attendance rates. The school has been actively working to build these relationships, specifically through improving dialogue, engagement with parents and carers, and helping them support their children inside and outside of the classroom.
Liam Collins, Assistant Headteacher at Kingsbury Green Academy, explained, “It has been shown that pupils with high rates of attendance achieve the highest results at GCSE and A Level, and so attending school regularly is essential for pupils to get the most out of their school experience, including their attainment, wellbeing and wider life chances.
“Every percentage point that we can increase will, in real terms, make a huge difference to every pupil in the classroom. We’re very proud of this increase and the hard work that comes behind it by staff and parents.
“There’s a wide range of reasons for absence and some young people avoiding school, but by working collaboratively with parents we can support our pupils to achieve the best that they possibly can whilst they’re at Kingsbury Green Academy.”
