News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

St Augustine’s Catholic College Trowbridge has announced the success of its recent non-school uniform day dedicated to raising funds for a  Ugandan water charity. On this special day, students and staff came together to support a crucial cause, demonstrating their commitment to global solidarity and environmental sustainability.

To participate in this unique event, each student donated £1 towards the Uganda water charity and dressed in white and blue clothes. The white and blue colours stood for purity and water, emphasizing the importance of clean water access.

In a powerful display of unity and creativity, the entire school community gathered to form the shape of a water droplet, with a photograph capturing this powerful moment taken by ex-student Peter Heard.

This initiative is part of a broader effort across the Clifton Diocese, where all Catholic schools are raising funds for the Uganda Water project. The project aims to address the extreme climate challenges in Uganda, which range from dry seasons to heavy rains. By harvesting rainwater into large storage tanks, schools in Uganda will have a reliable water supply throughout the year.

This is particularly impactful for girls, who often spend hours each day collecting water, allowing them to stay in school and focus on their education.

Furthermore, the project is match-funded meaning that for every £1,000 raised by St Augustine’s Catholic College, local businesses who have signed up to help will contribute an additional £1,000, doubling the impact of the donations.

“We are incredibly proud of our students and their dedication to making a difference,” said Aidan Dowle, Head Teacher of St Augustine’s Catholic College. “Every penny raised will go directly towards providing sustainable water solutions for schools in Uganda, ensuring that children, especially girls, can continue their education without interruption.”

St Augustine’s Catholic College extends heartfelt thanks to everyone who contributed to this cause, including the students, staff and those businesses who have signed up to match fund. Together, we are making a significant impact on the lives of children in Uganda, promoting education and sustainability.
