St Gregory’s Catholic College welcomed Bishop Bosco, the newly ordained Bishop for Clifton Diocese, for a special visit on Wednesday 26 June, 2024. The event officially honoured the school’s Rain Garden in a special service and blessing to recognise the school’s commitment to sustainability and community engagement.

The visit included a tour of the school and a tea party, allowing students, staff, governors and guests to meet with the Bishop. A highlight of the day was the blessing of the school’s Rain Garden, a project developed by Year 9 students in partnership with Wessex Water during their Sustainability Day last year.

The garden serves as a practical example of sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS) and emphasises the importance of environmental stewardship.

Bishop Bosco led a beautiful service focused on the impacts our cultural changes can have on the environment. His message underscored the interconnectedness of humanity and nature, urging students to continue their efforts in caring for the planet.

Mrs George expressed the collective sentiment of the St Gregory’s community, saying, “We are overjoyed to welcome Bishop Bosco to St Gregory’s and we wish him much happiness in his new role within our Diocese.

“We are incredibly grateful for Bishop Bosco’s kindness, words and time. May the eagerness to care for our common home continue to spring up and be nurtured in the hearts of our students, just as the rain garden has flourished over the past year.”
