Green Open Homes is back – save the date for October 12th & 13th – and learn how to reduce energy costs and your carbon footprint.
Bath & West Community Energy (BWCE) invites you to the Green Open Homes Bath weekend, a unique opportunity to explore homes across the city that have embraced energy efficient living. Open Homes events provide information that’s hard to get any other way – face to face, from a homeowner who has trodden the path.
Whether you’re interested in solar panels, insulation, efficient windows, batteries or new heating solutions, hear from people who have already made these changes, and avoid the pressure of sales pitches or spending weeks researching on the internet.
Making energy efficiency improvements to your property can feel daunting. As a homeowner or tenant, you may feel like you lack the knowledge, ability, money or confidence. Green Open Homes events are designed to address those concerns, where visitors can gain practical advice on how to make their homes more comfortable and energy efficient.
BWCE and partners have come together to help residents feel empowered, and to show that a warm and cosy home is within reach.
Bath event highlights:
- A range of properties of all ages, sizes and types 18 properties across the city, including the historic Beckford’s Tower. See how modern, period and listed buildings can benefit from energy efficient enhancements.
- Exclusive Spotlight Sessions As well as home visits, you can attend small, focused groups to learn about energy efficiency in listed buildings. Sessions are led by a BWCE Home Energy Surveyor and a B&NES Council Conservation Officer, where you can learn about heritage properties and how to gain listed building consent. These sessions require advance booking.

About Green Open Homes B&NES
Green Open Homes are friendly, informative events that demonstrate to the community how to heat homes while reducing energy bills. Bath and West Community Energy are collaborating with several partners to run a programme of Green Open Homes B&NES events in Bath and communities in North East Somerset. Home openers show others the energy saving measures they’ve taken, explain what the processes and costs are like, and give recommendations of businesses that they have worked with.
Sally Merrett, who opened her home in the 2023 event, said, “I was really pleased to show others what I’ve done to my house to make it more affordable and comfortable in winter. I’ve been tackling relatively low-cost measures on my windows and doors and draught proofing, and think this could make a big difference to many people living in hard-to-heat homes in B&NES. It’s taken a lot of research to find the right measures, materials and installation techniques for my house.”
Pete Capener, Managing Director at BWCE, added, “Energy costs continue to soar higher than when the energy crisis began. These Green Open Homes events are more relevant than ever, as they offer practical solutions for residents. We are glad to run the Bath event for another year and hope to benefit even more people across B&NES and beyond.”
Councillor Sarah Warren, Deputy Leader and Cabinet Member for Climate Emergency and Sustainable Travel, said, “Attending the event last year gave me valuable insight into how we can improve our homes’ energy efficiency and save money on heating. It helped me to appreciate how a range of measures can work in the different types of properties we have in Bath and North East Somerset. I would encourage people to get involved because events like this can help our collective effort towards a greener, net zero future.”
