News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Calling all budding photographers aged 8-17 years. Chippenham Museum Photo Club is an after-school club running photography sessions for young people interested in learning a new skill, getting creative and having fun!

“No photography experience is required and all cameras are welcome, including mobile phones,” explained Elaine Davis, the Engagement Officer at Chippenham Museum. “If you don’t have access to a camera, don’t worry we have a few club cameras you can use.

“We meet after-school on a Wednesday during term time at Chippenham Museum and use the museum galleries, temporary exhibitions and collections for photographic inspiration. We also make the most of any fine weather to get outside and explore the local environment. Sometimes we take part in projects which take us further afield.

“Our current project, More Time to Play, which aims to help raise awareness and funds for the NSPCC, has given us the opportunity to visit local sports clubs for some unique photographic sessions.

“As a group we learn together and help each other to develop our skills and creativity. But we also invite in professional photographers to help us learn specific techniques.

“We think that photography is a calming way to view the world and allows us to express ourselves in a different and creative way. Being able to control what we do and do not focus on can be very empowering, reducing social anxiety and helping with our mental health and wellbeing. It gives us a voice without the need for words.”

The club’s junior group, for ages 8-10, meets Wednesday’s during term time, 4pm – 4.45pm, £3 per session.

The senior group, for ages 11-17, meets Wednesday’s during term time, 4.45pm – 5.30pm, £3 per session
