News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Pupils from Roundhill Primary School and St Mary’s Church of England School in Writhlington have joined schools from across the region to practice their singing skills at Bath Abbey for a one-off music concert that will be out of this world.

The children attended a rehearsal for Stardust, a musical experience organised by the Bath-based charity, Voices for Life. Voices for Life is a music, wellbeing and performance charity which works with children to inspire happiness and self-confidence through song. Stardust tells the story of a group of child astronauts who are travelling to a planet called Zarg. Their journey takes them to different feeling planets, each represented by music and song.

The children will form part of a 200-strong schools’ choir which will perform the specially written musical in Bath Abbey on 29 January, accompanied by a 30-piece orchestra, conductor and narrator.

This is the fifth time Voices for Life has worked with children from Roundhill; previously some of the pupils formed a choir to celebrate the 850th anniversary of St John’s Foundation and to welcome Her Majesty Queen Camilla.

Kirby Littlewood, Head Teacher at Roundhill school, said, “We are delighted that our pupils get to take part in such an exciting opportunity. Our new school motto is ‘Building Memories Together’ and a chance to perform at the Abbey in this marvellous musical number is a memory to be treasured for life.”

Miss Norris, a Year 3 teacher at St Mary’s, added, “Voices for Life is an amazing opportunity for children to express themselves and explore emotions through a musical space adventure. At St Mary’s we provide many opportunities for children to learn, be inspired and experience music. Performing in the Bath Abbey will bring together all our children’s musical skills in such an inspiring way.”
