News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

The Museum of Marvellous Things, a fun-filled family show featuring original live music, giant puppets, show-stopping costumes, magical effects, interactive storytelling and a chance to make your own special puppet, is coming to Pound Arts in Corsham on 31 October.

Presented by Practically Perfect Pictures and based on the book by Kristina Stephenson, the bestselling author and illustrator of Sir Charlie Stinky Socks, Practically Perfect Pictures has brought The Museum of Marvellous Things to life with a show that encourages audiences, young and old alike, to share the power of imagination and creativity.

“Think of a place that is powered by magic – the magic of a child’s imagination,” said Kristina, writer, director and producer. “Picture all the incredible creatures and amazing things that could be inside it. Wonderful, isn’t it? Welcome to The Museum of Marvellous Things.

“Now consider what would happen if children stopped using their imaginations and the magic ran out. What would happen to all the wonders in this magical place? It doesn’t bear thinking about does it?

The Museum of Marvellous Things is a magical theatrical experience with giant puppets, live original music, interactive storytelling, huge balloons and lots of laughter! Children are at the absolute heart of the show with a very simple premise – they must save the museum (and everything in it) by making and believing in magic. The more they use their imaginations, the more magic they make; the more magic they make, the more the museum comes alive; the more the museum comes alive, the bigger, brighter and more marvellous the show becomes. It’s as simple and wonderful as that.”

Practically Perfect Pictures is a Wiltshire-based, multi-faceted arts organisation that aims to bring picture books alive though live storytelling, drama, puppetry, music, dance, art and craft with a vision to make the arts accessible to all children, wherever they may be.

Since its launch in 2022, it has reached thousands of children and families up and down the country with its unique interactive performances, events and workshops, believing that, “Sharing the power of imagination and hands on creativity with children through the arts is nothing short of wonderful. It generates a special energy, opens doors of possibility, enriches young minds, and fills any space – big or small – with magic!”

The company’s fun-filled family show The Museum of Marvellous Things which features glorious original music by local musician and composer Nigel Ellis (LSO, RPO, BBC Concert Orchestra), opened in London in October 2023. It has been touring the country for the past 18 months to critical acclaim.

“The joy that poured out of the theatre after every performance.” Hannah Cox, Executive Director – Jacksons Lane

“It was funny, hilarious, marvellous and so good I almost exploded.” Theo (aged 6) at The Egg Theatre.

“The most amazing and beautiful show. So sensitively pitched to children (and adults).” Audience member at Hanger Farm Arts Centre, Totton.

The Museum of Marvellous Things will be coming home to Wiltshire this Half Term with performances at The Pound Arts Centre, Corsham on Thursday 31 October and Salisbury Arts Centre on Friday 1 November. The show is aimed at children between the ages of 3 and 10 years and their grown-ups. However, children of all ages are welcome and will enjoy making magic in this interactive unique actor-musician show.

So, come on in, let the magic begin.
