Newbridge Primary School is inviting applications to become a school governor

Newbridge Primary School

Sarah Thornber,  the Clerk to the Governing Body at Newbridge Primary School, invites applications to join the governors
Could you help shape the future of our school?
When my colleague reflected on her first year as a school governor, she admitted she hadn’t expected the sheer breadth of responsibility involved. Like many, she assumed it was mainly about supporting the school’s academic work. But what she discovered was eye-opening: running a school is more like running a small company. The headteacher operates as a CEO, responsible not just for education but for HR, safeguarding, site management, catering, IT systems, finance, and more.

It’s a huge task – and that’s where the Governing Body plays a vital role.

While it’s helpful to have some Governors with education expertise, it’s the diversity of skills, perspectives and life experiences on the Board that really makes a difference. The best Governing Bodies are those that can support and challenge the school effectively, drawing on a wide range of backgrounds.

We’re currently looking for new Governors to join our team. You don’t need to be a teacher or have a background in education. In fact, we’re not looking for any specific professional profile – we’re looking for people who care, people who understand our local community, who bring fresh thinking, and who are passionate about helping every child succeed.

If that sounds like you – or if you’re simply curious to find out more – we’d love to hear from you. Please contact our Clerk for further information or to express your interest in the role.
