News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Performing arts students at Saint Gregory’s in Bath are buzzing with melody and excited anticipation for this year’s eagerly awaited winter production that is sure to set the southern hills of Bath alive with the sound of music.

The world’s most iconic musical goes on stage at Saint Gregory’s Catholic College from Thursday 25 – Saturday 27 January 2018, bursting with song in this much-loved family tale of love, courage and determination.

The Sound of Music tells the musical story of Maria and the von Trapp Family, thrilling audiences with its unforgettable score that includes some of the most memorable songs ever performed on the musical stage including ‘My Favourite Things’, ‘Edelweiss’, ‘Do-Re-Mi’, ‘Sixteen Going on Seventeen’, ‘The Lonely Goatherd’ and the title song “The Sound of Music”.

Performing arts students are adding the final touches to this winter’s production as they prepare to act, dance and sing their hearts out in this timeless classic where the sound of music will, quite literally, fill the air and sprinkle a dusting of Rodgers and Hammerstein magic over their very own Von Trapp family singers.

Head of Performing Arts, Andrew Psirides, said, “The school has a well-earned reputation for amazingly high-quality performing arts productions, known across the local community. There is such enthusiasm and joy for performance at Saint Gregory’s that became so immediately obvious on the very first evening of auditions. We continue to build on this to ensure that quality, inclusivity and enjoyment are the key factors to any Saint Gregory’s performance.

“Due to the talent that auditioned this year we made the decision to triple cast the show. Although this has resulted in very busy rehearsals, it has made the production family large and stronger.”

“One of the best things about doing a school show is seeing friendships and bonds formed across the year groups, and with it comes a feeling of great support amongst our young people. We also wanted our casts to take ownership of the work and rehearsals have been an ensemble effort, with lots of creative and imaginative ideas coming from the students themselves as well as staff. It is a wonderfully uplifting show, and we hope the audience enjoy it as much as we have enjoyed rehearsing it.”
