Cricketers from Hardenhuish School in Chippenham recently enjoyed a trip to Chippenham Cricket Club to take part in a development session with world class cricketer, Susie Bates. Susie currently holds the highest score and highest batting average in the New Zealand Women’s 20Twenty cricket team and also represented New Zealand in the 2008 Olympics for basketball.
The girls completed sessions that helped them work on their batting, bowling and fielding skills, before finishing with a fun game. The highlight was being able to try to bowl out, and then bat against Susie, especially when Molly Brophy hit her for 6! The girls were also given an opportunity to ask Susie questions about her career and find out more about being a professional cricketer.
It was a great experience for the students to be able to get involved in the event and be inspired by a top-level athlete like Susie. Congratulations to Molly Morris, Lily Lloyd and Eve Beach for being awarded a special prize for their performance in the workshops.
