Stourhead, the National Trust’s world famous landscape garden in Wiltshire, is taking part in the national charity event The Big Draw on Saturday 6 October, from 10am to 4pm.
Founded in 2000, The Big Draw (formally The Campaign for Drawing) is an arts education charity that promotes visual literacy and the universal language of drawing as a tool for learning, expression and invention.
With a diverse range of activities for all ages and capabilities, the aim of the event is to promote arts and crafts while simultaneously bringing people together.
Camilla Forest, Visitor Experience Manager at Stourhead, explained, “In the 18th century Stourhead was once described as ‘a living work of art’ and it continues to inspire artists today. The Big Draw promises to be a fabulous day full of family fun with plenty of different opportunities to get creative and make your mark. Whether you like painting, sculpting or drawing, there’s something for everyone.
“The day offers something for all ages, from simple children’s activities, like leaf rubbing and biscuit decorating, to still-life drawing and photography masterclasses for mum and dad.”
Weather permitting, there will be artists stationed all around Stourhead’s lake. A range of mediums will be demonstrated, from watercolours, to pastels, to felt work. Visitors can watch the process that goes into their work, while taking their own inspiration from the autumn display around the garden.
Entry to the property on the day is free. There’s a small charge for activities with all proceeds going toward Stourhead’s fundraising appeal for property conservation work.
