The children at Forest & Sandridge CE Primary School in Melksham have welcomed onboard a new member of the team, Luna the golden retriever puppy.
Luna, who will be four months old in September, is owned by Headteacher Anna Willcox, who explained, “She will be coming to school with me each day and children will have the opportunity to help take care of her. We also hope that she will be a great support and calming influence for children who find it particularly difficult readjusting to life back at school and that she will be able to support with traumas experienced over lockdown.
“Luna came into school for the last five days of term and was totally at home straight away. The children and staff adored her and she them! All good signs that she will be a great addition to our team. She even featured in our staff end of term video!” https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFjw3BcycKI&t=4s
Anna added that Luna will spend most of her time in the offices but she will also engage in activities with children such as walks and story reading. “There is a great deal of evidence of the positive impact dogs have on emotional wellbeing and I am looking forward to seeing this in action with Luna in school.”
