News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

A posse of pooches will be taking their owners for a walk to support Bath Cats and Dogs Home’s Wag Walk on Sunday 3 October, with families welcome to take part too.

The event has seen hundreds of dogs and their owners taking part in recent years, but the charity had to cancel 2020’s walk and delay this year’s because of the pandemic.

The team is delighted it is now able to offer a safe and fun event and walkers can choose either a 2 – or 5-mile walk, taking in Bath’s stunning National Trust Skyline route.

They’ll be joined by BBC presenter and celebrity vet Dr James Greenwood and his faithful Labradors Olly and Dolly. James, who presents The Pets Factor and Morning Live, says, “The pooches and I are delighted to finally be joining other dogs and walkers to support Bath Cats and Dogs Home Wag Walk. I have first-hand experience of the invaluable work the Home does in rescuing, rehabilitating and rehoming animals in need, so I’m looking forward to lacing up my trainers, grabbing the lead and getting out into the beautiful Bath countryside. Every pound raised will go towards supporting the animals at the home who desperately need our help.”

Walkers need to pre-register and there will be staggered group starts every five minutes to ensure distancing is maintained.

If you would like to take part, it’s £15 to sign up the first dog and £5 for every dog after that. There is a sponsorship target of £50. Human beings accompanying dogs go free!  Or if you are walking on your own the cost will be £5. There will be free parking at the home.

Participants walking dogs will also receive their very own dashing doggie bandana to wear on the day and everyone will receive a tote bag filled with celebratory treats.

The walk will be led and guided by event marshals. It will be fully sign-posted, and all walkers will be given a map so there is no fear of taking a wrong turn! It’s a busy day with lots of dogs so please do consider if the event is right for you and your pet.

Walkers and their canine chums are encouraged to stay after the walk for a picnic and to chat to newly made two legged and four legged pals once the Wag Walk is finished.
