Kingswood students took to the stage last week for a production of Antigone. Originally written in 440BC by Sophocles as the last in the Oedipus Trilogy, the play is a tense and gripping ancient Greek tragedy with all the trappings; conflict, love, power, family, dictatorship v democracy, divine law, pride and death. The students used a modern translation and updated the setting with a very slick, corporate twist.
“Working with the cast and crew of Antigone was an absolute pleasure,” said Drama Teacher, Mrs Lizzie Ward. “They all created a huge sense of atmosphere and told the story so brilliantly, no easy task when working with an ancient story. They should all be extremely proud of the magic they created for the audience; there was real alchemy at work!”
Mrs Ward went on to thank everyone involved for all their hard work and commitment during the project: the cast for their superb acting and for some, learning an epic number of lines; Dasha’s beautiful lighting design; Leyla’s atmospheric sound effects; Tom’s striking audio/visuals; Tilly and Elsa for creating some stunning costume and make-up; and of course Mr Francis, Miss Tamblyn and Miss Brayton for their inspiration and support.
