Local charity Bath Cats and Dogs Home recently held its annual Wag Walk fundraising event which was attended by over 80 walkers and their dogs. TV presenter and celebrity vet, Dr James Greenwood, attended the event with his beloved Labrador Dolly and spoke to the walkers before the start of the walk about why animal rescue centres like Bath Cats and Dogs Home are doing such essential work.
James said, “My Labrador, Dolly and I greatly enjoyed meeting the dogs and walkers at the Wag Walk. Rescue centres are a lifeline for animals and pet owners in these tough times and what strikes me about Bath Cats and Dogs Home is their very non-judgemental approach to animal rescue, their incredible veterinary team working behind the scenes in their vet suite and their brilliant rehoming team matching the right animals with the right owner. We can’t underestimate how important rescue charities are for animal welfare so please support them if you can.”
The Wag Walk was sponsored by Bath Vets and has raised funds for the care of vulnerable cats and dogs at the Home. The two walking routes featured trails through the beautiful Claverton area of Bath with a choice of a two mile flat route close to the home or a fivemile route along the National Trust Bath Skyline which had more challenging terrain. All dogs who took part wore their bright orange ‘Wag Walk’ doggie bandanas as a memento of the day.
The walk finished off back in the grounds of Bath Cats and Dogs Home where walkers collected their dog-friendly goodie bags and enjoyed the refreshments available in the field. Bath Cats and Dogs Home rescues, rehabilitates and re-homes cats and dogs who are unwanted, neglected, or mistreated, taking in animals from Bath and North-East Somerset and parts of Somerset and Wiltshire. The charity needs to raise over £2 million every year to continue its animal welfare work, both at the Home and in the local community.
The top fundraisers received a special Bath Cats and Dogs Home branded lead cover and every pound raised will be used to care for unwanted, mistreated or abandoned local dogs and cats.

Emma Wyatt, from Box, who is a supporter of Bath Cats and Dogs Home, added, “I loved taking part in the Wag Walk with my partner and three whippets. I’ve long been a supporter of the charity, and so were my parents who used to walk dogs from the home when I was younger. I would say absolutely go for it if you’re thinking of adopting, always try and rescue before anything else because there are so many amazing dogs in need of a caring home.”
