Pupils from St Keyna Primary School in Keynsham enjoyed success at a Bath & North East Somerset cross country event for Year 6 pupils, with two of its runners winning gold.
The children joined 15 schools from across the region to compete in the event, with Tianna and Miles winning golds, meaning that they will go on to represent the county in another competition in November.
“I felt so proud of myself winning the gold medal and coming first place,” said Tianna (pictured above). “I knew I could do it as I had been doing daily runs at school and practising. I felt so happy to make my parents proud.”
St Keyna also celebrated success in this month when a Year 4 team of five boys and five girls who took part in a Bath & North East Somerset Quad kids athletics challenge, coming first out of 19 schools. One of the Y4 girls, Harriet, came second overall out of 85 girls.
What’s more, Tabatha, another Year 4 girl, came second overall in the Bath & North East Somerset Year 4 cross country event in a field of around 60 girls, with the girls cross country team coming first out of 12 schools.
“I am thrilled with the success of the children and grateful to Michael Pope, the school’s PE Lead, for promoting participation in sport for all abilities and the daily mile running which is an important part of the school day,” said headteacher Steve Gumm. “As a school we are so proud of the sporting achievements of so many children from St Keyna.”
