News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Bath group Off The Record is asking 11-18 year-olds who live, study or work in Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) to take part in two short surveys to give their views on subjects that will be of real interest to them.

The first survey aims to give local young people a say on whether or not they’d like BANES to have a Member of Youth Parliament.

The county left the UK Youth Parliament in 2019, but current members of the BANES Youth Forum (https://www.offtherecord-banes.co.uk/participation-youth-forum) feel passionately that they and their peers should be represented at the national level, so they created this survey to see if it supports their case.

Barney (aged 14), the Youth Forum participant leading on the UK Youth Parliament campaign, said, “The UK Youth Parliament is a really exciting scheme to enable youth voices to be heard and represented in decision making. Young people in BANES would benefit from getting a Member of Youth Parliament (MYP). As part of our campaign to make this happen, we’ve created a short survey to find out how local young people view youth representation and how they feel about the prospect of BANES having an MYP.”

The second survey focuses on whether can schools in BANES be made more accessible for neurodivergent young people?

This short survey is for any 8-19 year-olds who live, work or study in Bath and North East Somerset (BANES) and who identify as neurodivergent or have a diagnosis such as Autism, ADHD, Dyslexia, etc.

The purpose of the survey is to learn about neurodivergent young people’s experiences of school and their views on what would make school better for them. The BANES Youth Forum (https://www.offtherecord-banes.co.uk/participation-youth-forum), who created the survey, will use the findings of the survey to advise local schools on significant changes that they could make.

Ivy (aged 14), the Youth Forum participant leading on the neurodiversity in education campaign, said, “All children should have equal access to education. This survey will tell us what local neurodivergent young people find difficult about school, and what would improve their experience. Please spread the word!”
