News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Families are invited to a fun-filled day at the Museum of East Asian Art in Bath on Saturday 10 February to welcome in the Year of the Dragon.

From 11am to 4pm, the museum will give families the chance to learn about the history and customs of this festival and take part in activities, workshops and trails exploring different aspects of Lunar New Year and Chinese culture.

A traditional Lion Dance will lead visitors into the beautiful Bath Assembly Rooms for a day of origami, chopstick challenges and more. Look to the stars in the pop-up planetarium, where the team from The Herschel Museum of Astronomy will explore fascinating stories about the cosmos linked to the dragon and the moon (book here). Listen to a concert by Bath local Lydia Sun as she plays the guzheng, a traditional Chinese stringed instrument.

Pick up a trail to find Chinese characters in phrases and words all over Bath city centre, including at the museum, Bath Assembly Rooms and The Herschel Museum.

The Lunar New Year celebration is organised by the Museum of East Asian Art, supported by the National Trust and in collaboration with the Herschel Museum of Astronomy and Comins Tea.
