News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Royal High School Bath students who received their International Baccalaureate (IB) diploma results this summer once again outperformed their peers worldwide.

Their average score was 36 out of 45, higher than the global average of 30, and the UK average of 34.6. This continues a trend at Royal High Bath for their IB students to achieve results which exceed the global IB average.

This year’s cohort has been outstanding, receiving a 100% pass, with seven students achieving the 39 points required for Oxbridge and medicine offers, and Head Girl Jess gaining the full marks of 45.

Top achiever Jess began her school career at Royal High School’s Nursery aged three, carrying on through Prep, Senior and Sixth Form, and has excelled in all areas of the school. Following on from her fantastic results, Jess is heading off to Exeter University in September to study medicine.

Other top achievers include:

  • Annabel who scored 42 points and has secured her place to study Medicine;
  • Alice who heads for York to study Biomedical Sciences;
  • Katharina who has secured her place at UCL to study French with Management Studies;
  • and Sofia who heads to the US to take up a highly competitive athletics scholarship at the University of North Carolina Pembroke.

Two of the A Level students were able to take advantage of our IB offer and studied Mandarin and Spanish at standard level with both students securing a certificate in their subjects.

Head of Sixth Form, Mandy Ladbury-Webb, said, “Congratulations to all our IB students on their incredible results. To achieve scores way above the global average is a real testament to our Sixth Form team and the level of commitment and passion for learning from the students themselves. A massive well done to everyone.

“Huge congratulations to Jess on her impressive perfect score of 45 in the IB Diploma. This outstanding accomplishment reflects her intellectual capacity and consistent dedication to her studies across all six IB subjects. Jess’s contributions to Royal High Bath extend well beyond academics – she was a dedicated House Leader of Austen, an inspirational Head Girl and an outstanding netball player. We are deeply grateful for her energy, drive, and the many positive contributions she has made to life at RHB.”

Acting Head, Hadrian Briggs, added, “Congratulations to these hardworking students who have achieved across a wide range of subjects with really exciting future prospects. We are so proud of them. They leave us with a broad knowledge and skill base, well-equipped to take on the challenges of university life, gap years and employment.

“The diversity of the subjects they are pursuing and the destinations they have chosen reflects the breadth of interests and skills within our student body, and the Royal High’s focus on supporting students to find their individual strengths and passions. The popularity of the IB at our School continues to grow as pupils and their parents realise the breadth and potential it offers. We look forward to welcoming next year’s cohort in September.”

About the IB Diploma Programme at Royal High Bath

The International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma Programme has been an established Sixth Form pathway for more than 50 years with Royal High Bath being the only school in Bath to offer the diploma. The globally-recognised qualification sees students complete a two-year course comprising six subjects from different academic areas – three at higher level and three at standard level – and three core elements, theory of knowledge, extended essay and creativity, activity and service (CAS). IB subjects are graded on a 1-7 scale with 7 being the highest score, and 45 being the maximum. A score of 36 out of 45 is equivalent to three A grades at A-Level.

Royal High Bath offers two pathways to higher education at its dedicated Sixth Form Centre, with IBDP being one of them. It offers a range of scholarships and financial support to help students access education at the leading independent school.
