News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Dorothy House’s second annual Paws in the Park dog walk challenge event is back, taking place on Sunday 6 October. This year’s event will take place on the beautiful grounds of the Hospice and will involve a 5km dog walk in the scenic village of Winsley, as well as fun entertainment and engagement stalls.

Bring family, friends and of course, your furry best friend, and help raise vital funds for hospice care in the community.

What’s involved in the event?

Paws in the Park 2024 takes place at Dorothy House in Winsley (just outside of Bradford-on-Avon). The event opens at 10am, with the dog walk starting at 10:30am. The event involves a 5km sponsored dog walk around Winsley and through Dorothy House’s Firefly Woods and newly launched Interactive Nature Trail (some of the route cannot be accessed on wheels and alternate routes are available).

After the walk, participants are invited to stay and enjoy the event village as well as refreshments and activities on offer. Just some of the activities to look forward to include a family-friendly dog show, professional photography, demonstrations by event partners, delicious treats for everyone and lots more.

This year offers two registration options. Alongside ‘A Bonded Pair,’ which covers one human and one dog, there is a family option available, known as ‘The Pack’ which covers up to two adults, three children and two dogs. Additional human and dog tickets can also be purchased. Each entry includes an event souvenir for every dog taking part.

Why take part?

“Frank and I had a smashing time at Paws in the Park,” said a 2023 Paws in the Park participant. “We met some lovely dogs and their owners walking around – and Frank won scruffiest dog in the dog show! A perfect day of fundraising with my dog.”

Paws in the Park is not only a fun-filled day out for families and their furry friends but will also raise vital funds for Dorothy House. By taking part, participants are helping Dorothy House continue to provide free end-of-life care in the community, supporting local patients and their families through the most difficult of times.
