Bath Academy A-Level students have received the congratulations of Principal Tim Naylor following their impressive results.

Headlines from the academy include

  • 28% of all grades were A*/A (beating the national average of 27.8%)
  • 55% were A*-B grades this summer (beat the national average of 53.9%)
  • The average grade improvement by resit students this year was 2 grades per subject
  • 18 out of 21 subjects had 100% pass rates
  • 85% gained placed at their first choice university
  • 54% gained places at Russell Group universities
  • Top university destinations this year currently include (but are not limited to): Durham, Exeter, Bristol, Surrey, Leeds, Winchester, and Bath

The academy was also keen to share the successes of several students who have studied with them to achieve improved grades through resits.

  • One student who came from Bishop Wordsworth’s has gained a place to read Psychology at Surrey, after improving her A-Level grade profile by a whopping 10 grades.
  • Another student, from Radley College, came to resit two A-Levels from January to June and achieved a four grade improvement with final grades of A*A*A and an A* in his EPQ. He is studying Politics and International Relations at Exeter.
  • Another student, from Prior Park, improved her A-Level profile by an impressive eight grades and has taken up a place at Durham University.
  • One student, from Clifton College, improved her grades to AAA and is progressing on to study Medicine at Exeter.
  • Another student, from Collegiate School in Bristol, improved her A Level profile by six grades over two subjects and is progressing to study Journalism at a Russel Group university – Sheffield.
  • Another student, from Prior Park, is going to study Veterinary Medicine at Bristol after improving her Chemistry grade to an A and studying A Level Biology from scratch in one year and achieving an A*.

“Here we are on Results Day, with the media pundits looking for something controversial to fill the airwaves and column inches,” said Tim Naylor. “Previously it has been ‘made up’ grades during COVID, followed by easier exams with grade inflation and universities lowering their entry requirements.

“In contrast, I would like to flag up the hard work put in by Bath Academy students, many of whom had decided not to settle for second best last year and took the decision to come to us and resit their A-Levels. On average they improved by two grades per subject, with one student improving her three A-Levels by an impressive 10 grades.

“We teach, educate and support young people who feel one down by providing the encouragement to move from a ‘felt minus to a felt plus’, and lead more satisfying and creative lives. I am a Psychology teacher and my favourite psychologist – Albert Ellis – once said, ‘The trouble with most therapy is that it helps you feel better. But you don’t get better. You have to back it up with action, action, action.’

“Our students have done just that, by putting in the hard work to progress to universities matching their abilities and aspirations – congratulations!

“It is a great pleasure to see scores of our students achieving places at their dream universities but we also wanted to extend a helping hand to those from nearby schools, colleges and further afield – we are available for free impartial advice and guidance to any and all who need it.”
