News, events and schools' information for families across Bath and West Wiltshire

Marksbury C of E Primary School has held its inaugural Colour Run & Brunch, raising more than £500 to support the school’s PTA and fund school trips for all children throughout the year.

This exciting event was a wonderful opportunity for both new and existing members of the school community to come together and celebrate the start of the new school year. The day began with a delicious community brunch at Marksbury Village Hall, featuring a wide array of home-baked treats generously donated by parents and local supporters.

After brunch, participants moved to the local farmer’s field, kindly rented to the school for sports, to join in the Colour Run. Children and parents enjoyed running through a vibrant course, where they were showered with brightly coloured powdered paint.

Marksbury School’s PTA expressed its gratitude for the community’s overwhelming support. A spokesperson for the school said, “We couldn’t have asked for a better turnout for our first Colour Run & Brunch. The energy and support from everyone—whether you baked, donated, volunteered or ran—was incredible.

“Events like this are not only important to help bolster the funds required to enrich the learning experiences of our children, but vitally, as a school that serves many local villages, they are a way to strengthen existing relationships with families, as well as meet new members of the school community. We’re so grateful to all who helped make the event such a success, and a special thank you to the local community for their support.”

In addition to the Colour Run, a raffle featuring exciting prizes drew widespread interest, contributing significantly to the overall fundraising total. The PTA praised the children who raised sponsorship money and everyone who donated treats or purchased raffle tickets. The funds raised from this event will go directly towards supporting school trips for all children throughout the year, ensuring that each student can benefit from enriching educational experiences beyond the classroom.

For those who were unable to attend but still wish to contribute, donations are still being accepted via the school’s JustGiving page www.justgiving.com/campaign/marksburycolourrun

“We would like to extend a special thank you to all the volunteers who helped plan, organise and run the event,” said Natalie Drane from the Marksbruy School PTA. “From managing the brunch at the wonderful Marksbury Village Hall to coordinating the Colour Run logistics, your efforts were invaluable in making this day memorable for everyone involved. Additionally, a heartfelt thank you goes to the local farmer for kindly renting out the field used for the event. Your support and generosity are greatly appreciated.

“Following the success of this event, the PTA hopes to continue building on the momentum with more community-led activities in the future. Be sure to stay updated with upcoming events through Marksbury School’s newsletters and social media platforms.”
